Hanumān Jayanti – appearance day of the son of Vāyu, also known as Āñjaneya, is celebrated on two different days in the year. Once in the month of Caitra – April 5 this year, and then again in December in the region I come from – Karnataka! I’m told that one is a “birthday” while the other is a “victory” day. Either way, more reasons to meditate on Hanumān is always a good thing!

In each of my children’s room, Hanumān presides over their desks, watching and protecting them. His devotion to Lord Rāma is incomparable, his strength inconquerable, his personality charming as a mountain of gold. His eyes are flooded with tears of joy when names and praises of Lord Rāma are uttered. Endowed with intelligence and thoughts as swift as Vāyu, he has mastered his senses. I salute Hanumān. May we be graced with the strength of his celebrated bhakti.

This is a creative paraphrasing of this beautiful little Hanumān stuti, a meditation on Āñjaneya. Pictures from the Hanuman temple in my grandmother’s village in Karnataka. Many thanks to my uncle, cousins and other family for the generous supply of photos of puja-s from this temple. I especially love the banana-alaṅkāra (decoration) ❤️❤️
