Durgā & Devī Sūktam – Live Course

Introduction

This course brings together two luminous hymns to the Goddess from different parts of the Veda — the Durgā Sūktam (Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda) and the Devī Sūktam (Ṛgveda). Through them, we immerse in the Divine Feminine as Durgā, the radiant force of transformation revealed through Agni, and as Vāk, the Sovereign Goddess embodied as sacred Sound. Studying these hymns together offers an opportunity to experience the shared essence and subtle distinctions of Vedic recitation and vision through the energy of the Goddess.

Durgā Sūktam (Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda – Mahānārāyaṇa Upaniṣad)

A Vedic hymn invoking Agni as Durgā, the radiant protector who guides devotees across life’s challenges. Celebrating divine brilliance and courage, it is chanted for protection, clarity, and auspicious energy.

Devī Sūktam (Ṛgveda)

Revealed to Vāk Ambhṛṇī, this hymn honours the Goddess as Vāk, the creative power of speech and wisdom pervading the cosmos. It celebrates the Divine Feminine as the source of strength, insight, and universal presence.

Date and time

The course starts on Tuesday 03 March 2026. There will be 12 online LIVE classes on Tuesdays with two time options: 9.30am & 6.30pm Brussels time. You may join either class as suitable to your time-zone.

Course level

This course is at an intermediate level and is recommended after the Foundation program. You do not need extensive experience in Vedic chanting, but the Foundation course is the only pre-requisite.

Weekly homework & self-study

Students will be required to practice the chanting in between classes and submit weekly homework through the duration of this course (8 homework assignments). It is not possible to learn chanting only through live classes. Self-practice is a very important aspect. You will have self-paced courses with organised recordings for self-practice.

BONUS 1

Instant access to the workshop (self-paced course) – Yā Devī Sarvabhūteśu. If you already have this course, please note there is no additional discount, like with the 2 main courses.

BONUS 2

10 days sādhana of Devī & Durgā Sūktam followed by japa of Durgā Gāyatrī mantra for protection. Live sādhana at 3pm Brussels time daily. (First day’s recording will be made available in the course for those unable to join live). This is an excellent way to establish the practice by engaging in sādhana.

Frequently asked questions

I have just finished the Foundation program, can I take this course?

Yes, this is a good course to do after the Foundation program.

Is there any homework between classes?

All students will be required to go through self-paced course material for practice between classes. This is the best way to use this program. Without the practice, it is not possible to learn these hymns just from the live classes alone. This will be the student’s responsibility to follow through. You will have the option to submit weekly homework (recording of your practice). This must be done weekly and cannot be accumulated.

How long will the ZOOM class recordings be available?

The ZOOM class recordings will be available for up to 3 months after course ends. For privacy reasons, we cannot make these videos available permanently as students participate in these classes. However, the three self-paced courses will be available permanently which will have all the recordings and learning resources you will need to continue practice after course ends.

Are there any scholarships or discounts offered on this course?

This course takes Shantala’s time extensively, especially as each student receives individual feedback. Payment plans are possible to make it convenient. We are unable to offer discounts or scholarships for this type of program with extensive teacher involvement – live classes and individual homework evaluation.

Can I follow this course through recordings as I’m unable to be there during this time (or time-zone inconvenient)?

Yes, absolutely, you can follow the course through recordings. Just make sure to send in your weekly homework on time and receive feedback. This is a very effective way to learn!

Will this course be offered again at another time?

We do not know when we will offer this same course again in a live format. The self-paced courses will always be available (no live classes or homework evaluations).

Who will evaluate my recordings?

Shantala will evaluate all homework for students on this program. If for any unforeseen reasons Shantala is unable to do this, her student Poornima who assists her will conduct the homework evaluations.
