Introduction
This special course is offered through 8 live classes (1hr each) with weekly homework + 10 practice days (20 min each). Program starts 02 Sept 2026.
Drawn from the Taittirīya Saṃhitā, this sūktam consists of 20 mantras dedicated to the Oṣadhī-s, the healing plants personified as divine mothers and goddesses. The herbs themselves are the presiding deities of the hymn, addressed as living, conscious powers that descended from heaven three ages before the gods to bring healing, vitality, and protection to all beings.
The sūktam celebrates the plants as removers of disease, givers of long life, and bestowers of ojas, the inner vital force. It honours the wisdom of the vaidya, the physician who works in partnership with these plant energies, and culminates in a prayer for freedom from affliction and the flourishing of life.
Traditionally, this sūktam is recited by those who work with plants, healers, herbalists, vaidyas, and sādhakas, as well as by anyone seeking physical healing or supporting another in recovery. It is especially powerful when chanted while gathering or preparing herbs, before administering medicine, or as a daily prayer for health and vitality. Patients and caregivers alike may recite it to invoke the conscious presence of the plant kingdom in the work of restoration.

The course starts on Wednesday 02 September 2026. There will be 8 weekly LIVE classes of 1 hour, starting at 4pm (Brussels time). Additionally, there will be 10 LIVE practice sessions of 20 minutes on each day from Thursday 15 Oct to Saturday 24 Oct, each starting at 3.30pm.
Course level
This course is an advanced-level course and requires completion of the Foundation course followed by at least two sūktam-s at the intermediate level. The student will be expected to maintain svara and have the ability to learn a complex text.

This course is recommended to students who have completed the Veda Studies Foundation program as well as at least two intermediate level sūktam-s. Students are expected to be able to maintain svara as well learn complex texts with ease. Shantala is unable to provide useful feedback to students unable to maintain svara at this level.

Objectives:
At the end of this program, students will
- Learn to chant the Oṣadhi Sūktam
- Explore the context and significance of the hymn
- Practice the sūktam for 10 days with the cohort to establish learning & practice
Program dates
8 weekly classes at 4-5pm Brussels time:
Sept 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
Oct 7, 14, 21 – 1 hr classes
10 daily practices at 3.30pm Brussels time:
October 15 - Oct 24 (20 min each day). Oct 21 will overlap for both practice & 1 hour class.
TIME ZONES: Students are responsible to check local times for live classes. Use a tool like THIS.

Frequently asked questions
I have just finished the Foundation program, can I take this course?
This Advanced level course is recommended after study of at least 2 sūktam-s at the intermediate level. If you are an Āyurvedic practitioner/healer and would like to learn this after Foundation – please check with us about eligibility ([email protected]). Shantala is unable to provide useful feedback if svara is not being maintained, basic Vedic chant rules are not being followed (anusvāra/visarga) or if the learning new vocabulary of chant is too challenging for your level.
Is there any homework between classes?
All students will be required to go through self-paced course material for practice between classes. Each week, a homework can be sent for evaluation. There are 7 homework evaluations included in this course.
How long will the ZOOM class recordings be available?
The ZOOM class recordings will be available for up to 6months after course ends. However, the three self-paced courses will be available permanently which will have all the recordings and learning resources you will need to continue practice after course ends.
Are there any scholarships or discounts offered on this course?
We are unable to offer discounts or scholarship on these longer courses as they are resource intensive for us. Payment plans are possible to make it convenient.
Can I follow this course through recordings as I’m unable to be there during this time (or time-zone inconvenient)?
Yes, absolutely, you can follow the course through recordings.
Will this course be offered again at another time?
We do not know when we will offer this same course again in a live format. The self-paced courses will always be available.
