Nārāyaṇa Upaniṣat

Unfolding the importance of the famous mantra for contemplation and japa – oṃ namo nārāyaṇāya – the Nārāyaṇa upaniṣat holds a prime place in the recitation of pañca sūktam pārāyaṇa – the practice of reciting 5 important hymns together. It is recited like the glorious pendant of this garland of Sūktams.

Course objectives

At the end of this course, students will learn

  1. To recite the Nārāyaṇa upaniṣat with full understanding of the Vedic phonetics involved.
  2. Understand a high level meaning of this text.
  3. Use the material provided for continued practice after course ends.

The Nārāyaṇa upaṇiṣat unfolds the upāsana (meditative means) of reaching Nārāyaṇa and asserts that all humans, ṛṣi-s (visionary poets) and all beings are born from and resolve into Nārāyaṇa. Nārāyaṇa created Prāṇa, senses and the mind. Nārāyaṇa created all the elements, all gods, the Veda. A very enjoyable and meditative chant to learn!
